Modern Mountain Residence | WAMO Studio Architects | Santa Fe Architect | New Mexico Architect | Green Building

WAMO Studio Architects | Modern Architecture Rooted in the Landscape. Stone. Steel. Light. Modernism in Santa Fe.

Designed by WAMO Studio Architects, this modern mountain residence is a bold yet grounded response to the landscape. As a Santa Fe architect and New Mexico architect focused on high-performance design, our goal was to create a structure that feels carved from the land while expressing contemporary clarity and precision.

Set against a dramatic backdrop of autumn hills, the home combines natural stone, weathered steel, glass, and wood — materials chosen for durability, sustainability, and their ability to age gracefully in the high-desert climate.

The architecture is defined by:

  • Locally inspired stone masonry
    • Corten steel cladding that evolves over time
    • Deep overhangs for passive solar control
    • High-performance glazing
    • Energy-efficient building systems
    • Climate-responsive design strategies

The structure anchors into the terrain while the upper level extends outward, framing expansive views of the surrounding mountains. The sloped roof form directs light deep into the interior while managing snow and seasonal weather conditions — a practical and sculptural gesture.

Inside, stone walls continue through double-height spaces, creating thermal mass and a tactile connection to the exterior. Steel stair elements, exposed structure, and warm wood ceilings reflect our philosophy of honest material expression — modern architecture rooted in craft.

At WAMO Studio Architects, green building is not an add-on — it is embedded in every decision. From building orientation and envelope performance to material longevity and energy strategy, this home reflects our commitment to responsible, high-performance architecture in New Mexico.

As a modern architect in Santa Fe, we strive to design buildings that belong to their place — architecture that is timeless, sustainable, and quietly powerful.
