An MFA project, is a 60-unit development providing high-quality, high-performance, affordable rental apartments to the community of Clovis. An in-fill project, Andalusia provides substantial revitalization to the downtown district. This development consists of 45 new units, 15 rehab units and a rehab community building. Executed on an extremely tight budget for rural New Mexico, all units, studios to three bedrooms, rent for less than $500.00/month. Designed to Passive House standards, all buildings have a south orientation, thermal-bridge-free design, well-insulated envelope and ERV system. The backbone of sustainability for Andalusia lies in prioritizing simplicity over complexity. Prioritizing simplification is seen throughout the project and applies to the selection of durable building materials, the design of open floor plans, the use of shared systems and the integration of communal shared facilities. By bringing high quality, healthy, and affordable living spaces to downtown Clovis, the project supports a locally based economy.
